تعاریف:
فعل prescribe به معنای توصیه کردن، بنا کردن یا طراحی یک قانون است. البته این کلمه به معنی تجویز دارو است.
اما فعل proscribe به معنی ممنوع بودن، حرام بودن یا محکوم شدن است.

نکات کاربردی:
فعل prescribe بیشتر در معنی تجویز کردن یا تعیین کردن به کار می‌آید. در عوض، کلمه‌ی proscribe کلمه‌ای رسمی است که در معنی نهی کردن، تبعید کردن و محکوم ساختن مورد استفاده قرار می‌گیرد.
